Read along, sentence by sentence

As Bookvox reads, the current sentence is highlighted and kept in view. Reading along while listening helps many people concentrate and remember, including readers with dyslexia or ADHD, language learners, and anyone working through dense material at the end of a long day.

Simple controls

It keeps your place

Every document you open is saved in this browser. Come back later and pick up at the exact sentence you stopped on. Nothing is stored on a server.

Private

Bookvox has no upload step and no account. Your file is opened, split into sections, saved and spoken inside your browser. Documents are kept in this browser's own storage so you can come back to them, and you can remove them from the list at any time.

Two honest details. Some instant voices are online voices supplied by your browser maker (they're marked “online” in the voice menu); with those, the sentence being read is sent to Google or Microsoft to be spoken. Studio voices never send your text anywhere. The studio voice model itself is downloaded once from Hugging Face, which sees that download like any other web request.

Questions

Is the read-aloud free?

Yes, with no time limits. Bookvox runs in your browser, so it doesn't have server costs to pass on.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. Open bookvox.app in your phone's browser and choose a file from your phone or cloud storage. Instant voices work right away.

Does it highlight each word?

It highlights each sentence (or short group of sentences), which stays in sync with every kind of voice.

Can I read web pages?

Save the page as HTML, or copy the text and use “paste text”.
