Your documents

When you open a file, Bookvox reads it inside your browser. It is not uploaded to us. To let you continue later, the extracted text is saved in your browser's own storage (IndexedDB), and your reading position and settings in local storage. Removing a document from Continue listening deletes it. Clearing your browser's site data removes everything.

Voices

Studio voices run entirely on your device; text is never sent anywhere. The voice model is downloaded once from Hugging Face (huggingface.co), which receives an ordinary web request for the model files.

Instant voices are provided by your browser or operating system. Voices marked “online” in the voice menu are cloud voices run by your browser maker (for example Google or Microsoft); when you use one, the sentence being read is sent to that company to be spoken, under their privacy policy. Voices without that label speak locally.

What we receive

Bookvox has no accounts, no tracking cookies and no advertising. Like any website, the servers and the network that deliver these pages (including Cloudflare) see standard request information such as your IP address and browser type in order to serve the files.
