How to make the MP3

1 · Open the PDFDrop it above. Bookvox finds the text and splits it into sections.
2 · Choose voice and speedPick a studio voice and a speed in the player. Both are built into the MP3.
3 · Download MP3Choose This section for one MP3, or Whole document for a zip with one MP3 per section.

How long it takes

The speech is made on your device, so the time depends on your computer. A recent laptop or desktop with a good graphics chip makes audio faster than it plays; an older laptop can take one to three times the length of the audio. Bookvox shows progress and an estimate of the time left. Keep the tab open until it finishes; it keeps the screen awake where the browser allows.

Questions

Is converting PDF to MP3 really free?

Yes, with no limits on length or the number of files. The audio is made by your own browser, so there's nothing for us to meter.

Why does it take a while?

Natural-sounding speech is made by an AI model running on your device rather than on a server. That keeps it free and private, but the speed depends on your computer.

Can I use the MP3 for my own projects?

The studio voice model (Kokoro-82M) is released under the Apache 2.0 license, and Bookvox adds no restrictions on audio you make. You do need the rights to the text you're converting.

Can I make the MP3 with an instant voice?

No. Browsers don't let websites record their built-in voices, so downloads always use a studio voice.

What if I close the tab?

The download stops, because the work happens in that tab. Start it again when you're ready.
