Chapters, the way the book defines them

Bookvox reads the EPUB's own table of contents, so chapter names in the player match the book. Cover pages, copyright notices, tables of contents and similar front and back matter are unticked by default. Tick them in Contents if you want them read. Footnote markers are left out so they don't interrupt sentences.

Which EPUBs work

It remembers your place

Close the tab mid-chapter and come back tomorrow: the book is in Continue listening on the Bookvox home page and opens at the sentence where you stopped. Everything is stored in this browser only.

Turn your own EPUB into an audiobook

Authors can download a whole book as MP3s, one per chapter. That's useful for proof-listening, beta readers and accessibility. Read our EPUB-to-audiobook guide for what retail stores need on top of that.

Questions

Why won't my ebook open?

It's most likely protected with DRM, which is common for books bought from Amazon, Apple and Kobo. Bookvox can only open DRM-free EPUB files.

Does it read images or captions?

Images are skipped. Captions and alt text inside the text flow are read like normal text.

How long will a novel take to listen to?

A typical 90,000-word novel is about 9 to 10 hours at normal speed. Bookvox shows the listening time for each chapter in Contents.

Can I listen in another language?

Yes, with an instant voice in that language if your device has one installed. Studio voices are English only.
