Where can you publish an AI-narrated audiobook?

AI narration has gone from a grey area to an explicitly regulated category on every major audiobook platform. The rules differ, and the most common, and most expensive, misunderstanding is about Audible.

Audible says no
ACX requires human-narrated audio and doesn't accept audiobooks voiced by third-party AI, however good they sound. Amazon's Virtual Voice program uses Amazon's own text-to-speech on eligible Kindle titles; that's the only AI route into Audible.
Everywhere else says yes, with disclosure
Spotify, Apple Books, Google Play, Kobo and Barnes & Noble accept AI-narrated audiobooks and ask you to declare the narration as digital. Distributors such as INaudio (formerly Findaway Voices) and Author's Republic carry AI-narrated titles to many retailers and library platforms, as long as the narration type is declared.
The audio itself still has to meet specs
Retail audiobook stores publish their own technical requirements. ACX (Audible's production platform), which many others mirror, asks for 192 kbps or higher constant-bitrate MP3 at 44.1 kHz, with RMS loudness between −23 and −18 dB, peaks no higher than −3 dB, and room tone at the start and end of each file. Bookvox's MP3s are speech-optimised (64 kbps mono) and aren't mastered to those specs. Treat them as a listening copy, not a retail master.
A practical path
Use a free on-device tool like Bookvox to hear your book and share listening copies with beta readers. When you're ready to publish, produce retail masters that meet the specs above, through a narrator, a studio, or audio software, and disclose AI narration where it's used.
